- The Opportunity
This is a specialist position in a fast-moving niche sector. It requires an enthusiastic individual who is passionate about technology, with substantial experience in AV/IT as a core skill foundation from a design or install background.
The role of a Technology Consultant will encompass a broad array of disciplines within the technology sector, such as, but not limited to, AV, IT, satellite and communications, home automation, security and lighting. The role relies heavily on the skills of engineering management so evidence of working within this role is essential.
You will both assist and lead in the research and design intent of systems for development into a fully specified solution. The goal being to deliver to clients the smartest solutions for their budgets and ambitions. Continuous involvement throughout the project is required, to ensure all aspects remain in compliance with the specification created throughout a period ranging from 1 to 4 years. This will be depending on the projects' size, cost and complexity.
The job requires a tenacity in research and a highly motived self-driven attitude to become well-versed in multiple technology fields. The aim is to eventually be able to confidently and concisely advise as a technology consultant on several projects.
You will also be responsible for assisting in assessing and evaluating new, emerging
technology that may be relevant to the scope of services provided by our client and determining how these will fit into the specifications they prepare. Research will include talking to manufacturers and suppliers about their products, e.g. how they can integrate to work with other systems, modified to meet client needs etc.
Support to other members of the Technology Team and tasks will be key by taking feedback from their current needs and to find solutions to solve and/or improve current, ongoing projects.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist and eventually lead in the design of systems for their inclusion in a technical specification to meet client needs across the range of technologies offered.
Liaise with other industry professionals in the clients project team and with suppliers to ensure the agreed specification is delivered on time and if any changes are needed, to oversee how and when these are made.
Understand the latest technology applicable to our client's services and to help look for new and emerging technologies to develop and enhance them further. This may include but not be limited to: desktop research, talking to manufacturers, assessing new products, technical data sheet reviews and attending trade shows etc..
Can understand, comment and amend detailed technical drawings.
Support the Technology Team in preparing presentations for prospective new clients, showing how you can present clients with technologies that are ‘beyond the curve.
Undertake continuing professional development (where appropriate) and staff development activities to keep up to date with the above responsibilities and to meet the strategic priorities of the company.
Based in Yorkshire in commuting distance of Hull, Salary negotiable circa 35k-40k+ pa doe, plus bonus and other benefits and mileage allowance.
Your skills and experience
Experience of working in an electronics / electrical or install / construction environment. Preferably in AV, IT or Communications sectors (residential or marine). Up to date knowledge on electronics and emerging technologies such as, but not limited to:
TV display technologies. Control and automation systems.
Audio systems amplifiers / speakers etc. IT network infrastructure.
Evidence of previous work within an Engineering Management role.
A-level or modern apprentice level 4-5, with degree level qualifications ideally.
Desirable to meet the requirements of Engineering Council requirements for Incorporated Engineer (IEng).
Excellent level of written and spoken English.
Excellent computer skills (PC or Mac) and use of Microsoft Office applications with advanced, demonstrable knowledge of spreadsheets
Passion and desire to advance technological awareness of self and colleagues.
Very good interpersonal skills, ability to converse with all parties involved in a project.
To be self-aware and be able to remain independent and impartial when forming new working relationships with outside suppliers / integrators.
An eye for detail.
Task management skills, create, update and complete to deadlines.
Fiercely ambitious to progress your personal skillset for both the company and the individuals benefit.
Travel away from the office for short periods of time will be required. Travel will normally be within UK and Europe, but occasional trips further afield may be necessary to meet client deadlines and expectations.
You will be required to hold a valid passport and a full EU / UK Driving Licence
