Designation: AV Design Engineer
Responsible to: Sales Director
Salary range £30 to £35,000

Main Duties and Tasks (this is not an exhaustive list)
£32-35kper annum plus car allowance
Public-i provides AV including streaming solutions to a broad range of customers predominantly in the Public sector. Public-i has offices in Hove, East Sussex and Rawtenstall in Lancashire
The webcasting solution, Connect, has been sold for more than 16 years. During this time, Public-I has built a strong reputation for its hardware, software, customer service & support and hosting service. throughout the UK and parts of Europe. There is an established, but growing team that designs, installs, integrates and maintains Audio-Visual systems to these customers.
To support this growth Public-i is recruiting an AV Design Engineer to join its team.
The nature of the role requires a fair amount of travel and it is likely that your time will be split 60% out on site and 40% in the office dependent on the needs of the business.
We expect our staff to be committed and motivated and to want to develop and improve their knowledge and skills. This is not the sort of role for someone who can’t think on their feet and look for creative solutions to problems which may arise.
We are therefore looking for someone dynamic who has a broad range of skill sets in the implementation and design of AV systems. A willingness to learn, think holistically and comfortable working on your own are a must.
Although the key focus of the role is AV Design there is the opportunity for progression to a team leader role for the right candidate.
The role can be based from home due to amount of travel - or from our Hove office.
Main Duties and Tasks
Reporting to the Sales Director this is an additional role working within the AV Design team. The successful candidate will work closely with the Sales team to gather technical specifications and create Technical Proposals.
Key tasks include but are not limited to:
- Undertake full site surveys at potential new client sites to include an inventory of existing equipment
- Assess the customer requirements within the constraints of the site

Work closely with the Sales team to
- Agree a solution that meets the customer’s expectations
- Ensure tender responses are technically correct and fit for purpose

Work closely with the Operations team to
- Agree a deliverable solution
- Ensure tender responses allow sufficient resource for installation and project management
- Prepare the install team prior to delivery
- Be able to perform a full health check on existing equipment as part of the sale process for Service & Maintenance contracts
- Maintain up to date CRM, knowledge, schematic and service documentation
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential Requirements
Audio visual experience is paramount and ideal candidate will have had installation experience
AV system design: (As a minimum we expect you to be able to design an AV system)
Outline AV design for budgetary purposes
Full design for costing and technical proposal documentation
Installation drawings including rack build design
Wiring schematics and numbering schemes
Communicate with manufacturers/suppliers to help support the AV design process
Obtain supplier equipment quotes
Build costing sheets in line with the design and supplier quotes
Liaise with sub-contractors for quotes and survey support
Be able to produce technical writing for proposals and tenders
Good knowledge of digital transmission including AVoIP and HDbaseT
Experience of manufacturers such as Crestron, Kramer and Extron would be ideal
Fully familiar with conducting and writing site surveys
A good understanding of audio conferencing systems
An excellent understanding of audio and video protocols
A thorough understanding of analogue and digital based systems
AV system design
Be up to date with product announcements and emerging technologies
Preferred but Non-Essential Requirements
- Live streaming
- AV networking and IT networks
- Customer training experience
- Familiarity with Stardraw
- Conceptual knowledge of digital signage, room booking and video walls would also be an advantage
Personal Qualities
- Professional communication skills externally and internally
- Excellent customer service skills
- The ability to think quickly and outside of the ‘standard’ solutions where appropriate
- Time management and good organisational skills along with the ability to prioritise and manage workloads in a timely manner
- Be a self-starter with the ability to work autonomously
- Previous knowledge of using a CRM system would be an advantage
- Full, clean driving licence
The role is UK based with an anticipated 60/40 road to office split. The coverage area will depend on location.
