How are entries to the AV Awards judged?

How are the AV awards judged? Who judges the entries? What is the process that judges must follow? How are entries scored? And what are the judges looking for? These are

some of the questions answered below.

Who will judge the entries?

Our 30 handpicked judges made up of users and consultants will be split into five groups and judge categories carefully selected by AV Magazine’s editor Clive Couldwell. Judges sign non-disclosure agreements and declare any association or involvement with any of the entries. Judges will not know which categories they are judging until Judging Day which takes place on the 18 July.

The process

We receive a very high volume of entries which require two judging stages:

Part 1: The judges will individually study all the submissions received in their allocated categories online. Each of these will be scored against set criteria and will be scored out of 100. From this, the highest scoring submissions will make it through to the judging day on the 18 July 2018

Part 2: All 30 judges will come together at Bloomberg London and separate into pre-determined groups. A second round of judging will commence where each submission is discussed in-depth and each judge rescores. Judges do not decide the winners but they can agree to nominate an additional entry for a special mention.

The scoring

The winner is decided based on an average of the judges’ marks from both rounds. The manufacturer, distributor, reseller and systems integrator of the year categories will be required to attend the judging day and present to the judges.

What will the judges look for?

Overall, the judges will be looking for entries that meet the following criteria, as appropriate for each entry category:

  • Demonstrable commitment to, and pursuit of, the future development of AV communications
  • Achievements that benefit AV sector clients and users as well as the entrant
  • Proof of market development initiatives
  • Proof of company performance in terms of market share, turnover or margin increases
  • Proof of benefit to clients
  • Evidence of technical innovation and creative solutions to communication problems
